The Decorah Eagles Are Still Safe

The Decorah Eagles are still safe. I haven't heard of a fourth attack and Raptor Resource has not posted any such information. Hopefully the owl has learned not to mess with the eagles from now on.

After some further research into other owl species in the Iowa region, a more likely suspect in the attacks is the Great Horned Owl. Great Horned Owls are known to attack other raptors--regularly killing other owls--and their nests. They are also known for their aerial dive behavior.

  1. I stayed up to about 2:30 last night watching the Decorah nest no owl it was very windy so could not hear any owl the female eagle normally sleeps in the nest with her head under its wing the last three days she was attacked by the owl she has been half asleep most of the time standing up head up. I don't think she is in danger of getting hurt . I think the owl is just trying to get them to leave the prime feeding area just across the street is a fish hatchery.
